Because a mirror forms by molecular attraction rather than gravity, the glass you mirror can be any shape at all – a long thin tube or a round Christmas tree ornament. And you do not need to fill the container with the chemicals; you just need to keep the surface wet by rocking or shaking. When you mirror the inside of a glass container, you can see the outer surface as the mirror deposits on the glass so you know as you go what the final piece will look like.
Our Blown Glass Mirroring Kit contains enough Ready-To-Use Silver solutions to mirror the inside of eight containers with a capacity of 12 fluid ounce (360 ml). We include two types of reusable rubber to seal the opening as the mirror forms and two cans of water-thin lacquer to protect it once it's done. Additional tools and supplies are available.
We include Silver to get you started, but we suggest that you try mirroring your piece with Gold, Copper and Galena to get a really unusual effect. The Instructions cover all four chemicals in detail. The Kit includes 1” samples of opaque and translucent mirrors in all four colors.
